Robotics has largely contributed to increasing industrial productivity by automating many tedious or dangerous tasks, such as welding, painting, assembly. The common point of these tasks is that they take place in highly structured environments, such as assembly lines. By contrast, tasks taking place in unstructured environments have so far resisted robotic automation. Addressing unstructured environments is therefore essential for the next generation of factory automation, which is bound to change the game in worldwide manufacturing. Eureka Robotics Pte. Ltd. is a spin-off company from NTU, Singapore. The company’s mission is to bring to the market the cutting-edge robotics and AI technology developed at NTU by the company’s founders. Technology Features & Specifications

Our technology consists in a framework (software and know-how) to robustly address unstructured environments. The five main components of this framework are:

  • Obtain a model of the environment and of the workpieces. Our vision system, based on 3D cameras and our software, can automatically and precisely construct a model of the environment and of the workpieces;
  • Determine the positions of the workpieces during task execution. Using Laser Range Finders, 2D cameras or 3D cameras (depending on the accuracy requirements) and our software, we can quickly and accurately determine the positions of the workpieces. We can reach an accuracy of 0.2 mm, and processing time can be less than 1s. Our system can deal with multiple objects (of different categories) simultaneously present in the scene;
  • Plan the robot motion in real time. Our motion planning pipeline, based on open-source software and internally-developed proprietary software (which is in turn based on cutting-edge research conducted at CRI Group), is best-in-class:
    • low computation time (less than 1 second per movement);
    • optimized movement of the robot arm for speed and smoothness;
    • no teaching is required at setup or when the environment changes;
  • Control the contact interactions. We provide reliable, sensitive, precise control of contact forces. This is achieved by combining an industrial robot with a COTS force-torque sensor;

Integrate multiple hardware and software components. All the hardware (robot arm, force-torque sensor, gripper, cameras) and software (vision, motion planning, force control) are integrated in a robust and versatile framework.
